Milestone photography is my favorite! My darling 2019 couple transitioned into parenthood, and I got to capture their new life as a family of three. We had the most beautiful fall morning and Olive Park basically to ourselves. I always forget how magical the colors are during this time of the year, and each autumn, it’s the best surprise to see them all just come to life (before everything dies and Chicago turns into a cold, barren tundra). Baby Grayson was full of smiles and happy as a clam, even on a short nap that day. It’s always the most special feeling when my wedding clients come back year after year as they continue celebrating all of life’s milestones, big and small. I have had the joy of photographing Chelsea and Drew’s West Loop engagement session, their wedding at Salvage One, and now their precious family session. Each stage gets even sweeter as their bonds grow stronger and deeper. They’re an inspiration, and I’ve loved watching Chelsea and Drew fall even more in love with each other as they stepped into the new role of parents! I couldn’t be happier for this lovely family.
Best Stages to Capture through Milestone Photography
Milestone photography is a broad concept. Anything that makes a mark in your personal story can be a milestone. There are the big events like engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and births. But there are the less obvious but equally important stages, too, like anniversaries, career changes, and personal achievements. No two stories look exactly alike. There’s no perfect timeline for a person or family to follow. Your story is your own, and we all face highs, lows, and unexpected twists and turns along the way. And even with the inevitable challenges or even pain we endure, getting through to the other side or growing closer through it is absolutely something to celebrate.
People are the heart behind my work. Yes, I love a beautiful composition as much as the next photographer, but the connections and our humanness drive my passion. It’s beautiful! I want you to be able to reflect on these photos years from now and reminisce on those precious moments, whatever that looks like for you. I hope you stand amazed at just how far you’ve come.
Milestone Photography for All
This may come as a surprise, but I’m not going to tell you which milestones are photograph-worthy and which are not. They all are! And I’m here to help you document those points of your unique story that you deeply cherish. Ultimately, I really felt inspired to write to families who feel like their story isn’t quite like the others. Maybe you’ve gone through something that others have not, and you aren’t sure if it has a place on a family photography blog. It sure does! If you want it to. It definitely belongs in your family’s albums. No matter your story, you deserve professional photos that capture just how beautiful life is, hurdles and all!
If you’re considering milestone photography and your story involves a sensitive chapter, rest assured I’m not here to broadcast it but to offer a safe and compassionate place for you to get those beautiful photos you hope for, caring for your unique journey as a friend. I want you to feel like your story belongs–because it does! I would love to come to you for a lifestyle session, and I’m open to unconventional milestones, too. Let me know if your family has special needs so we can accommodate them during our photo shoot. As always, I’m here to chat. Let me know what you envision for your milestone photography session, and we can work together to make it happen.
