Roscoe Village In-Home Newborn Session | Introducing Baby Nora

Mar 27

Oh, baby Nora! From the moment I stepped into her family’s Roscoe Village home, I knew this session would be one for the books. Nora is the absolute sweetest baby girl, and her candid newborn session overflowed with love, warmth, and the coziest touches that made everything feel so uniquely them.

There is something so magical about those first weeks with a newborn. The sleepy snuggles, the tiny coos, the way time seems to stand still yet fly by all at once—it’s a whirlwind of love, exhaustion, and awe. And baby Nora’s in-home lifestyle newborn session captured every bit of that magic.

Neutral Nursery Ideas with a Twist!

If you’re dreaming of a nursery that’s just a little bit outside of the box, this Roscoe Village session will have your wheels turning with inspiration. Baby Nora’s room perfectly blended soft, classic minimalism with a personal twist: a subtle beagle-themed nod to the family’s beloved pup. (Yes, there’s such a thing as a beagle crib mobile, and yes, it is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen!) Every detail conveyed love and meaning, from the thoughtfully chosen light pink tones to the intricate handmade bookshelf that Nora’s dad built himself (wow!!). It felt homey, welcoming, and personal.

And then there’s Nora herself. Oh my goodness, this sweet little bundle was a dream to photograph, even when she started to get hungry. Snuggled up, she showed off by giving us the classic “fist under the chin” pose that could melt even the chilliest Chicago winter day. (She’s a natural in front of the lens already!)

Natural Newborn Photography that Tells Your Story

What I love most about lifestyle newborn sessions is that they go beyond impossibly cute photos of baby toes and sleepy smiles. They also tell a story. Candid lifestyle images capture the beautiful chaos, the in-between moments, and the rawness of your new normal. Because those first few weeks with a newborn? They’re an emotional whirlwind. Everything is fuzzy around the edges. During those early days, you’re sleep-deprived, coffee-reheating pros caught up in that magical bubble where time somehow feels fast and slow at the same time.

In fact, one of my favorite photos from Nora’s session wasn’t a planned one. It was during a quiet, in-between moment: Dad rushing to warm up a bottle, Mom holding Nora in her arms, flowers from well-wishers sitting on the table, and the bottle drying rack working overtime in the background. Life wasn’t glamorous—it was real. And that’s what made it so special. It was a snapshot of exactly what these early days feel like. Perfectly imperfect.

We ended the session with everyone snuggling on the bed. The fur siblings snuck into the frame for treats (Nora’s beagle pup and curious cat made a cameo, of course). Meanwhile, Dad’s face lit up as he looked down at his baby girl in the middle of it all.

Skip the Trends & Personalize Your Space Your Way

For families dreaming of a nursery that feels timeless but personal, Nora’s room is such a beautiful example of how to do it. Whether incorporating handmade pieces or a symbolic detail (like weaving in subtle nods to a beloved family pet), the key is to make it yours. Here are a few ideas to make your space feel special:

Infuse Your Personality

Whether it’s a fur baby, a shared hobby, or a favorite book, find small ways to make the space truly yours. Nora’s beagle mobile was such a gentle, sweet way to bring their dog into her world. (I foresee those two becoming fast friends.)

Incorporate Handmade Touches

Is there anything more meaningful than something made by a loved one? The bookshelf her dad built wasn’t just functional—it’s something she’ll treasure for years to come (and maybe even pass down one day). Do you have outdated items that are special to you? This is where Pinterest can come in handy. Look for creative ways to balance vintage elements with your design. You might be surprised at how well it works!

Consider Customized Classics

Pastel tones are timeless, but the personal details—the mobile, the dainty decor, the family photos—gave this nursery so much heart and personality. You could add some books you loved as a child or toys that hold memories. Others may see them as cute, classic decor, but you’ll see them as beloved treasures and heirlooms.

Embrace the Chaos

I recently visited a new friend’s house. As she welcomed me in and led me around, she said, “And this is where we do our living.” That simple statement stuck with me. Let your nursery be lived-in. It doesn’t need to look like a page out of a catalog. The bottle rack on the counter, the piles of baby laundry, the tiny socks everywhere—those are part of the story, too. Sure, you might tidy up a bit before your session, but it hardly needs to be “Pinterest Perfect.”

Capture The Magic of the First Days

It’s always an incredible honor to be invited into a family’s home during this special season of life. I don’t take it lightly and certainly don’t expect perfection (I’ve been there, too). Watching new parents find their rhythm, seeing the love they pour into every detail, and capturing those tiny, sleepy moments—it’s truly magical every single time.

If you’re near Roscoe Village and ready to capture these precious moments in a natural and heartfelt way, let’s connect. These days may feel like a blur, but I promise they’re filled with moments you’ll want to hold onto forever.
